Stockwood Park at Luton houses, among other attractions well worth a visit, the Bee Gallery, maintained by members of our association.

A big park on the high ground to the south west of luton, Stockwood Park contains acres of walks and the big house at the centre has been made into a most interesting museum with well kept gardens around it.

The Knot Garden at Stockwood park, Luton

The Bee Gallery was set up in 1996 by Bedfordshire Beekeepers Ian Beaty and Lesley Gingell when the old site at Wardown Park was transferred to be part of the new craft museum at Stockwood. The children find the gallery irresistible, with a live observation hive, a video camera showing the bees coming and going from the hive, hands on games and panels with information about honey bees for both adults and children.

The Association Apiary at Stockwood, has been run for many years by our experienced beekeeper, Mike Niemann who leads practical classes on Sunday mornings from April to September with a team of relatively new beekeepers who are able to broaden their experience and pass on their knowledge. There are sufficient colonies to show the progressive stages of the life history of the bee and the perfect opportunity to have a go at beekeeping whether you have never done it before, or are refreshing your memory and new members are always welcome to join the group whenever they are able. Protective clothing is supplied and it is recommended that you bring either Wellington boots or strong shoes and socks into which you can tuck your trousers.

Beekeeping Courses for Beginners and others

Courses are arranged by demand; the course in Bedford in the spring is usually aimed at beginners with little or no experience of bees and the Autumn course in Luton is primarily for students with some practical experience but both are open to everyone as we try very hard not to turn anyone away.   If you are interested in visiting the apiary at Stockwood Park Museum, Luton, Bedfordshire on a Sunday morning or taking a beginners course, please email: beesinbeds@hotmail.co.uk or telephone >>>>>>>>????

Views of the gardens at stockwood Park - well worth a visit.
There is also a very interesting and unusual collection of horse drawn carriages in the museum, The Mossman Collection, which is worth going to  see for itself alone.
